FairTest.org site relaunches

Cambridge, Mass-based national advocacy organization FairTest has relaunched its web site, fairtest.org, based on the Drupal content management system. Also known as The National Center for Fair & Open Testing, FairTest has championed the cause of open and educationally valid assessment of students, teachers and schools, from K12 through college.

Over the years, fairtest.org had become the national repository of reporting information and policy statements on these topics. The organization's coverage places a special emphasis on addressing racial, class, gender and cultural barriers posed by standardized tests. Needless to say, since No Child Left Behind, the amount of interest and material has grown significantly, challenging FairTest's small web team to keep up. The traditional static web site framework no longer was working with hundreds of pages of research and advocacy resources.

Last year, Database Designs began a web redesign process. We worked with the FairTest team to realign the main navigation topics to make it possible for different types of uses to find relevant information faster. And planned a migration of the site to a modern open source content management system.

Migrating all the content provided an opportunity to revisit and update the organization and presentation of this wealth of material. Together we opted to focus on this content in the design and go with a clean, if graphically minimalist look.

The new Drupal platform will provide a framework for continue growth, expansion of features, and a more visible web presence for the organization. Please check fairtest.org out, and sign up for their excellent newsletter.
